First and foremost, we want to say CONGRATULATIONS on finishing your novel. This is, in and of itself, a HUGE accomplishment! So, yay you!! 


Secondly, we truly appreciate your interest in publishing with our press. Please know that we take each submission into consideration and value the time and energy that it takes to query your manuscript for publication. Regardless of our decision, we wish you the very best of luck in your publishing journey.

  • Firefly Hill Press accepts submissions from new, previously published, agented, and unagented authors on a rolling basis.

  • Please send the first three chapters (or fifty pages) of your finished manuscript (please do not send manuscripts that are incomplete) and a query letter.

    • Your query letter should include a brief synopsis of your novel, the word count and genre of your novel, a short author bio, any publication credits if applicable, your contact information, a brief marketing plan/strategy for developing your author platform, and an explanation as to why the work would be a good fit for Firefly Hill Press .

  • Please also include a brief synopsis of the work (“this happens, then this happens…” - and yes, tell us the ending!) - no more than two pages in length.

  • Please address the subject line as QUERY- Your Last Name – Title of the Work (e.g. QUERY – Adams – The Girl in the Glass Box) to

  • Simultaneous submissions are accepted, so long as they are identified as such. Additionally, if an editor or publishing house requests a full or wants to move forward in the process for publication of your novel, we ask for the courtesy of notification as soon as possible.

  • We currently do NOT accept hard copies or submissions by mail. Email submissions should include the query letter in the body of the email and the manuscript sample and synopsis included as attachments – saved as either PDFs or MS Word-compatible files less than 5mb in size.

  • Given the high volume of submissions we receive, you can expect a response time of three to four months. We appreciate your patience. Phone calls, emails, and letters will not speed up the process, and are strongly discouraged. If you have not received a response after 16 weeks, at that time you can reach out to us via email to check on the status of your submission.

  • If your manuscript is not taken on at this time, please allow at least six months before you resubmit the same manuscript. If you are looking to query for a new manuscript, you do not need to wait.

Tips for a strong submission:

  • Be sure that ALL of your submission materials are clear, concise, and WELL-EDITED!

  • Be sure to follow submission directions – this is not only to help us streamline the process, but it also indicates to an editor that you are able and willing to follow instructions as they are given.

  • Be sure that you have familiarized yourself with our backlist and the types of books we represent to ensure that your book would be in comparable company and that this would be a mutually beneficial working relationship.
